Billy is a striking red chestnut and white pinto stallion standing at stud to outside mares. He is an exciting breeding prospect offering the perfect mixture of breeds by blending the best European Bloodlines with the best that New Zealand has to offer. His dam, Splish Splash (now deceased) was an intermediate eventer and a Weiti Stationbred mare which is where his colour, versatility, toughness and endurance come from. His father has impeccable European Bloodlines on both sides. He is “Craighavens’ Leviosa” whose progeny are proving to be very successful on the showjumping and eventing circuit. At the recent NZ National Breeders Championships his progeny won the overall Champion led Sport Horse and as well as the Champion Led Four year old and five year old sections, winning ahead of some imported stallion’s progeny.
 

We broke Billy in last year (which was a pleasure) and he is showing a real eagerness to please together with a fantastic calm mature temperament both on the ground and when ridden. He has smooth, flowing, balanced movement, moves like a dream and has a fantastic scopey jump. Billy began his showjumping training last year and was jumping over 1mt effortlessly (ridden) within a very short time but we held him back because of his age. Now that he is a little older we will try him on a few higher jumps (watch this space, we’ll keep you updated). He has been turned out for some time now so that he can mature further but we will be bringing him back in at the end of the month. We don’t expect any problems even though he hasn’t been worked for some time as he is very cruisey and definitely not the sort of horse that needs to be ridden every day.

He’s a very good doer (as are his foals), doesn’t need pampering and has never been lame even though he’s had some vicious kicks by mares. We attribute this to his tough Stationbred mum and feel that this side of him gives him New Zealand toughness and resilience.

Billy throws a high percentage of coloured foals with beautiful markings and with the same great temperament and plenty of bone and muscle. He was bred as a sporthorse for showjumping/eventing but progeny would be suitable for any equestrian discipline including dressage, showhunter, trekking, hunting and western riding.

This stallion is a potential Grand Prix Champion and as he progresses his progeny will be highly sort after.
Billy will be competing under saddle in NZEF Showjumping.

He is standing at stud at Mataiwhetu Station in the Kaimai Ranges, Tauranga.
